Unai Emery has told his Arsenal players to work harderArsenal travel to Chelsea on SaturdayJoel Campbell is off to Frosinone on a permanent dealAinsley Maitland-Niles will be sidelined for six to eight weeks Emery demand Unai Emery has told his Arsenal players they are carrying too much fat and are not running far enough in matches as he attempts to get the Gunners back into the Champions League. The former Sevilla and PSG coach has built his reputation on a high-energy style of play and has set rigorous targets for his performance team to achieve after another year in which Arsenal missed out on elite European competition. He believes players need to lose on average 1.3kg of fat – nearly three pounds. It is not that his players are overweight; the team led by Darren Burgess have been tasked with replacing that with 1.23kg of ‘lean’ mass – muscle. There will be little scope for excess baggage with Emery demanding an extra 28.89km from each of his players this season. Over the course of 38 matches, that equates to an extra 760m per man, almost half-a-mile more every game. Emery also wants to see what the club admits is a “historically poor” record of availability of players due to injury climb above 90 per cent – a target helped by the release of long-term sufferers Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere in the summer.Campbell exit Arsenal winger Joel Campbell is reportedly set to leave the Emirates for Frosinone on a permanent basis. Campbell was one of three players that Unai Emery named as surplus to requirements after the Premier League transfer window closed last week. And he seems set to beat David Ospina and Carl Jenkinson out of the exit door with a move to Serie A new boys Frosinone on the cards. Sky Sports claim Campbell has flown from north London to Italy in order to undergo a medical with the Lazio-based outfit. And he is poised to put pen to paper on a three-year deal to draw a close to his seven-year spell on Arsenal’s books.Maitland-Niles injury Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be sidelined for six to eight weeks with a broken leg, Arsenal have confirmed. The 20-year-old, who slotted in at left-back against Manchester City last week, limped off in the first half. And Arsenal have confirmed the versatile star has fractured his left fibula and he’ll be sidelined for around two months. Nacho Monreal is also a doubt for Arsenal’s trip to Chelsea this weekend, leaving Unai Emery with a defensive crisis. Stephan Lichtsteiner will start at left-back against the Blues on Saturday. Sead Kolasinac is also sidelined, with the left-back returning to action in October.
